How to remap a single URL to a series using a round-robin cycle list
Requirements
The following screenshots were taken with StreamCatcher v1.9 and that is the minimum version required for this round-robin cycle feature.
Steps
Start by running the SCConsole.exe. Your password was established when you first ran SCSetup.exe. To change it, open your security config file in Notepad.
Go into the web site you wish to configure (the web site would have been created by running SCSetup.exe). In this example, the WebSite ID is demos.href.com which is also the domain name. This is arbitrary; the WebSite ID could have been another word such as 'wwwDemos' etc.
Click to alter the configuration using the console,
In this example, the Cycle token is used for remapping a single static URL. You may use the token in other rules as well.
After saving changes to the config, reload them into memory. Keep in mind, in-memory refers to the memory inside SCConsole.exe. Your changes will not impact on live requests until you recycle the App Pool in IIS Manager. This is intentional! It gives you a chance to test your configuration without impacting surfers on the web site.
And we recommend that you always use a practice or staging server for testing your configuration prior to putting it onto a live server.
Click Test to test....
Enter a series of URLs to test. To see cycling, we test the SAME URL repeatedly, expecting to see it cycle through, in this case, 3 results.
Test results follow:
Final Points
- For quick tests, the process shown above is ideal. For dozens of automated tests, use the SCTestData.xls spreadsheet to store all tests and expected results. These can then be processed using the shortcuts on the Test page.
- SCConsole writes configuration changes to disk. Those changes will be used by IIS on the same computer as soon as IIS is restarted, or the App Pool is recycled.
